INEC approves distribution of PVCs in 13 states

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has approved the distribution of Permanent Voters Cards, PVCS, in 13 states of the federation, including Imo, in the third phase of the exercise.

Imo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof Selina Okoh, who disclosed this to newsmen, yesterday in Owerri, said the exercise would begin on November 7 and end on November 9.

“The Commission has also approved Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, exercise in the third phase to commence on Thursday, November 13 and ends on Monday, November 17, 2014”, Prof. Okoh said.

According to her, the voters register would be on display at the Polling Units, PUs, where voters registered, while distribution officers would be at the PUs from 8.00 – 4.00p.m for the three days of the exercise.

Okoh  explained that a person whose name appeared in the register would go to the distribution fficer at the same venue with his Temporary Voters Card, TVC, and exchange it with the Permanent Voters Card, PVC. “Those with TVC should be given an attestation to fill. Such a person would be expected to submit his/her form with a recent passport photograph to the PVC Distribution Officer and he/she would then be issued with his/her PVC”, Okoh said.

She emphasised that there would be no collection of Permanent Voters Card by proxy, stressing that each person was made to sign a collection register.

“Voters are expected to crosscheck their names in the displayed voters register and those who registered during the last registration exercise that could not find their names in the displayed register are to re-register during the continuous voters registration exercise between November 13 and 17, 2014 in the Wards designated as registration centres”, she said.
