Ondo PDP Candidate Alleges Plot to Disqualify Him
The Olusola Oke Campaign Organisation Tuesday raised the alarm of an attempt by the Ondo State Government to sponsor some thugs in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under the guise of a faction to file a case for an injunction to disqualify the party’s candidate, Chief Olusola Oke, from contesting the October 20 governorship election in the state.
Special Adviser to Oke on Media and Publicity, Mr. Kunle Adebayo, in a statement in Akure, alleged that the case, which would be filed before the state High Court would definitely sail through, because the state judiciary was already compromised and sympathetic to the cause of the incumbent Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko.
Adebayo stated that if the plot was not checked, it would make nonsense of both the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Federal Government’s record of transparent elections.
He also alleged that a very highly placed judge in the state judiciary is a member of the Labour Party (LP) under which Mimiko is re-contesting.
As evidence of proof, Adebayo said the judge on December 2010 in a party decision extract dated same day, signed and underwrote as the Leader of the LP in Ogbagi Ward 6 in Akoko North West local government area, the document ratifying the list of consensus executives of the party.
“My Lord, the judge not only signed as the ward grand patron but also in company of 15 quarter leaders and Hon. Debo Adepoju, Chief Olaku Adeniyi, Mr. Tope Adebambo and Hon. Felix Ogunmilade who also signed as Party leaders,” Adebayo stated.
He stated that the organisation raised the concern to prevent the Ondo State judiciary and the government from tarnishing the image of election and Nigeria’s democracy.
